Instructor Certificate Course
65 clock hours (25 flight, 40 ground)
Completion Time: 5 weeks
Course Objectives
This course is designed for a student
who holds a Commercial Pilot Certificate
with a helicopter rating. During
this course, the student will acquire the
skills and knowledge required to successfully
complete the Certified Flight Instructor
practical test administered by the
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
A student with a Flight Instructor
Certificate is eligible for employment
as a helicopter flight instructor,
the most common entry-level position
in the helicopter industry.
Course
Description
During the flight component of
this course, the student will learn
how to fly from the instructor’s
seat with a high degree of skill.
He or she will learn how to simultaneously
explain and demonstrate procedures
as well as analyze, critique and
correct “student” performance.
He or she will learn how to perform
and teach touchdown autorotations.
During the
ground component of this course,
the student will learn fundamentals
of instruction including teaching
methods, the principles of effective
communication, methods of critique and
evaluation, and how to plan instructional
activity. He or she will develop an instructor’s
notebook containing lesson plans.
This course includes two stages as outlined
in Quantum Helicopters’ Certified
Flight Instructor Course Syllabus.
The first stage must be completed successfully
before the student may proceed to the
next stage. Successful completion is
determined by oral evaluation, written
testing and a flight skills evaluation,
administered by the Chief Flight Instructor,
Assistant Chief Flight Instructor or
a check pilot. Upon successful completion
of the second stage, the student will
be considered eligible for the Flight
Instructor Certificate FAA practical
test.
